There are benefits to getting older − something you have either discovered or which lies around the corner as a pleasant reward for advancing years. Among those I cherish most are the gaining of the confidence to simply leave a party you’re not enjoying because life’s too short, and the acceptance that not knowing what’s number one in the charts is probably a blessing in disguise rather than cause for anguish at being three or four time zones adrift of the zeitgeist.

Cider-braised Pork Belly with Mustardy Cabbage and Haricot Bean Hash
Another Sunday, another roast. Every now and then I crave pork belly. I just do. This was one of those days. Lucky for me, Jamie Oliver came to the rescue with a great cider-braised pork belly recipe with cider mustard sauce.

Sausage rolls are a British staple. I didn’t even know they existed before moving over here and I must say that the supermarket version, cold as ice and like papier mâché in your mouth, did not make me believe I had been missing out on anything very special.

Before any of you get any misconceptions, let me just make this clear: I am not obsessed with Jamie Oliver. However, while he may make too many dirty dishes, he does have some good ideas when it comes to quick food. I have both the 30 Minute Meals and 15 Minute Meals cookbooks and they are fantastic – even though they always take longer than they claim. Of all the recipes I have tried from each, I have only had one failure – although that was pretty much inedible so take from that what you will.
